Immunohistochemical Study of the Gastrin and Human Pancreatic Polypeptide-Immunoreacitve Cells in the Gastrointestinal Tract of the Korean Native Goat

Abstract
The regional distribution and relative frequency of gastrin and human pancreatic polypeptide(HPP)-immunoreactive cells in the gastrointestinal tract were studied during the postnatal development(1 day old, 1 month old, 6-month-old and adult) of the Korean native goat by immunohistochemical methods.
Gastrin-immunoreactive cells which were restricted to the pyloric gland region of all postnatal stages and the duodenum of the 6-month-old and the adult decreased remarkably according to the increase with age. HPP-immunoreactive cells were rarely scattered in the rectum of the 1 day old, the fundic gland region of the 1 month old and the colon of the adult. The number of these cells was not correlated with the increase with age.
In this study, immunnoreactive cells revealed the differences of regional distribution and the relative frequency in the gastrointestinal tract during postnatal development. These results suggest that although the functional significance of fetal endocrine cells remains unknown, this was caused by changing of feeding habits and physiological conditions during different ages.
